Unsaturated air can become saturated in three ways—by evaporation of water into the air; by the mixing of two masses of air of different temperatures, both initially unsaturated but saturated as a mixture; or, most commonly, by cooling the air, which reduces its capacity to hold moisture as water vapour sometimes to the point that the water vapour it holds is sufficient for saturation. 3, record 1, English, - unsaturated%20air

Air sparging is the process of injecting air directly into groundwater. Air sparging remediates groundwater by volatilizing contaminants and enhancing biodegradation. It is akin to blowing bubbles from a straw into a bowl of water. As the bubbles rise, the contaminants are removed from the groundwater by physical contact with the air(i. e., stripping) and are carried up into the unsaturated zone(i. e., soil). As the contaminants move into the soil, a soil vapor extraction system is usually used to remove vapors. 2, record 2, English, - air%20sparging

Barbotage. Bioventing is an in situ remediation technology that uses indigenous microorganisms to biodegrade organic constituents adsorbed to soils in the unsaturated zone. Soils in the capillary fringe and the saturated zone are not affected. In bioventing, the activity of the indigenous bacteria is enhanced by inducing air(or oxygen) flow into the unsaturated zone(using extraction or injection wells) and, if necessary, by adding nutrients. 3, record 3, English, - bioventing

Tensiometry ...: Two kinds of devices are widely distributed on the French market: ’standard’ tensiometers (porous cup linked to a depression manometer by a tube filled with water); and watermark sensors (electrical measure block buried in the ground and removable meter). Tensiometers measure the soil matric potential (but only below 100 kPa). A little delicate to implement, exacting to pick out (automation is desirable), nevertheless they are a good tool for controlling the irrigations (particularly drip). Nowadays they are more used by agricultural advisers than by farmers, unless the latter are well trained. 3, record 8, English, - tensiometry
