Victim-offender meetings are organised to give offenders a chance to take active steps to make voluntary reparation to their victims. Such reparation extends much further than financial compensation. It includes an apology and an explanation of how the crime came about, and the offender has to listen to the victim's own story and respond to it. The exchange can be therapeutic for victims and usually has a visible impact upon the offenders, who have to face up to the reality of what they have done. 5, record 2, English, - victim%2Doffender%20meeting

The lack of clear reasons for the decision has other potential ramifications. For example, it calls into question the continued existence of the so-called rolled-up charge. The necessity for this type of charge arises in cases where there is some evidence on multiple defences, typically self-defence, provocation, and intoxication. Although the evidence may not be sufficient for any of the particular defences to succeed, the evidence of all the relevant circumstances could cumulatively impact upon the accused's state of mind so as to raise a reasonable doubt about his or her actual intent. 1, record 3, English, - rolled%2Dup%20charge

White phosphorus(WP) is a flare-and smoke-producing incendiary weapon, or smoke-screening agent, made from a common allotrope of the chemical element phosphorus. White phosphorus bombs and shells are incendiary devices, but can also be used as an offensive anti-personnel flame compound capable of causing serious burns or death. The agent is used in bombs, artillery shells, and mortar shells which burst into burning flakes of phosphorus upon impact. White phosphorus is commonly referred to in military jargon as "WP". The Vietnam-era slang "Willy(ie) Pete" or "Willy(ie) Peter" is still occasionally heard. 2, record 4, English, - white%20phosphorus

Cultural discontinuity refers to the lack of cohesion between two or more cultures. Upon entry into school, differences in the functional use of language among culturally and linguistically diverse children have been found to account for the discontinuity they experience. Because children come to school socialized to language in culture-specific ways, the discourse structure and communication styles used by many children from culturally and linguistically diverse populations is incongruent with that of the teacher's style of interaction. This discontinuity between home and school language socialization patterns can have a negative impact on academic achievement. 1, record 7, English, - cultural%20discontinuity

The S100—so named because it can withstand the impact of a ball fired at 100 m. p. h. from 24 inches away — has a layer of expanded polypropylene, the hard, foamlike material used in bicycle helmets. With so many issues competing for their attention, many academics display an initial reluctance to use technology in their learning and teaching. This is often attributed to lack of time, rather than lack of interest. Popular belief states that e-learning techniques are hugely time consuming and expensive. While we have not argued against this notion per se, we do believe that the approach one takes towards the creation of e-learning resources can have a huge impact upon the ’value for money’ and time considerations often put forward as reasons not to engage with e-learning. 4, record 32, English, - e%2Dlearning%20technique

1, record 45, French, - comptabilit%C3%A9%20sociale

... another possible way of creating permeability in hot dry rocks is «impact fracturing». This method... [may be described in its principle. ] A bore, cased except near the lower extremity, is surmounted by a hydraulic accumulator, filled with water and pressurized by means of a pump until the accumulator weight is lifted. The lifting pressure should be perhaps about 90% of the estimated hydro-fracturing pressure. A dynamic blow would then be struck upon the top of the water column by means of some device resembling a pile-driver, so that shock waves would travel to the base of the bore and be reflected up and down at attenuating intensity. Very high instantaneous pressures would be generated which would fracture the rock, and it is expected that the steepness of the pressure rise would be such as to resemble explosive action, so that the «star» formation... would be produced. 1, record 48, English, - impact%20fracturing

The low pressure air atomizing burner uses comparatively large volumes of air at low pressure(5 psi or less). Air from the lower passes through the burner body and is discharged through annular slots between the body and the nozzle tip, where it meets the film of oil at an angle as it issues from the tip. The impact of the air stream upon the oil film produces a fine mist which is projected into the combustion space. These burners may be fired with light or heavy oil.
