The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs was plit in two in 2024.

The Department of the Commissioner of Agriculture and Public Works was established March 4, 1868. The name changed in 1874 to Department of the Commissioner of Agriculture and Arts, although not officially changed until March 2, 1877. Prior to the formation of the Ontario Department of Agriculture, agricultural administration in Upper Canada was handled by a Board of Agriculture, later named the Bureau of Agriculture. Name changed in 1885 to Department of Agriculture, although not officially changed until March 23, 1888, and again May 18, 1966 to Department of Agriculture and Food. A further name change occurred April 1, 1972 to Ministry of Agriculture and Food. In March 1994, the ministry expanded its mandate to include rural community development and so changed its name to Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

The first Representative Assembly of the Colony of Newfoundland was elected in 1833 and named the House of Assembly. This name continued to be used for the elected Chamber when the Colony was granted Responsible Government in 1855. In February, 1934 the Constitution of the Dominion of Newfoundland was suspended. At the time of suspension there were two Houses of Parliament namely : the Legislative Counsel, the Upper House and the House of Assembly, the Lower elected House. When Newfoundland joined Canada in 1949, the Terms of Union as set forth in the British North American Act of 1949(now cited the Newfoundland Act) provided that the Constitution of the Legislature of Newfoundland as it existed immediately prior to February of 1934 would continue as the Constitution and the Legislature of the Province from the date of union. Although the Legislative Counsel was not continued at the time of Confederation, the Lower House or the House of Assembly became the elected Parliament of the Province and the name House Assembly continued to be used after 1949 in the same manner as it was originally used in 1833. Therefore, the Parliament of Newfoundland and Labrador is referred to as the House of Assembly and not the Legislative Assembly of the Province.

Its name has been changed just recently to Discovery Harbour and it is a picturesque scene covered with old buildings and horse drawn carriages.

Canadian Space Agency(CSA). CANOPUS : Canadian Auroral Network for the OPEN Program Unified Study. CANOPUS consists of a network of automatic data collection stations in West-Central Canada, transmitting data by satellite telemetry to a central data analysis centre in Ottawa, by means of which the powerful effects of solar activity on the ionosphere and upper atmosphere can be observed with minimum delay and studied in a systematic manner. CANOPUS was designed as an integral part of the Global Geospace Science Mission(GGS) organized by NASA as part of the International Solar-Terrestrial Physics Program(ISTP). CANOPUS was accepted by NASA as a component of GGS program on an equal footing with comprehensive sets of intruments on three on spacecraft(GEOTAIL, WIND and POLAR). The ISTP also includes the ESA CLUSTER satellites, SOHO and the Russian INTERBALL satellites... The system name, CANOPUS, was originally an acronym based on the role of the project as a component experiment of the NASA OPEN program. OPEN has now been renamed GGS and integrated into the International Solar Terrestrial Physics program which involves NASA, ESA and ISAS(the Japanese Space Agency). Since the project has become widely known as CANOPUS the name has been retained to avoid any possible confusion.

CANOPUS consiste en une batterie d'instruments automatiques terrestres situés dans le nord canadien et qui transmettent leurs données par satellite à un centre d'analyse. CANOPUS fut conçu comme une partie intégrale du programme ISTP (programme international de physique solaire-terrestre) et fut accepté par la NASA comme une composante de ce programme et sur une base égale a celle des 30 expériences réparties sur 4 vaisseaux spatiaux. Le nom CANOPUS était à l'origine un sigle basé sur le rôle du projet OPEN de la NASA dont il faisait partie intégrale. Bien que OPEN fut rebaptisé GGS et intégré au programme ISTP qui comprend aussi la NASA, la ESA (Agence spatiale européenne) et la ISA (Agence spatiale japonaise), le nom CANOPUS, devenu notoire, fut gardé pour éviter toute confusion.
