Whereas acute urticaria is usually caused by foods, drugs, or viral hepatitis, chronic recurrent urticaria requires a careful initial search and follow-up for cryptic diseases, including carcinoma, lymphoma, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, systemic vasculitis, and hepatitis.
