Record 1 2017-11-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Orbital Stations
CONT

The Node 2 connecting module... controls and distributes resources from the Truss structure and the US laboratory Destiny to the connected elements : European Columbus Laboratory, Centrifuge Accommodation Module, Japanese Experiment Module(Kibo), Multi-Purpose Logistics Module, H-II Transfer Vehicle. It also provides a working base point for the Space Station Remote Manipulator System.

OBS

The Station’s nodes serve as connectors between modules and add extra storage space. Visiting vehicles will dock at the nodes, and spacewalking astronauts will exit from there through the airlock.

OBS

Node 2: term officially approved by the International Space Station official approval Group (ISSOAG).

CONT

The Z1(Zenith) truss will serve as the support structure for the power platform P6.... In addition the Z1 contains the Control Movement Gyroscopes(CMGs) which will be used for attitude control of the whole complex and the huge SGANT antenna and dish, to be activated after the arrival of the US laboratory Destiny, which will return high speed data and TV to Earth.

CONT

The Long Spacer, measuring 8. 5 by 4. 9 by 4. 9 m, performs two major functions. It physically separates the P6 solar arrays from the P4 solar arrays when the P6 is located in its permanent position, and it will provide temporary cooling to the US laboratory Destiny when it arrives at the ISS [International Space Station] in 2001. The cooling system uses ammonia as a working fluid and can eject 14, 000 watts of heat per orbit.

CONT

The P6 integrated truss structure is made up of three elements: the Photovoltaic Array Assembly, the Integrated Equipment Assembly, and the Long Spacer.

CONT

Destiny Laboratory. The Destiny Laboratory Module is the centerpiece of the International Space Station, where unprecedented science experiments will be performed in the near-zero gravity of space. The lab consists of three cylindrical sections and two endcones with hatches that will be mated to other station components. A 50.9-centimeter- (20-inch-) diameter window is located on one side of the center module segment. This pressurized module is designed to accommodate pressurized payloads. It has a capacity of 24 rack locations. Payload racks will occupy 13 locations specially designed to support experiments.
