Forecast Models : Forecasters use numerical weather models to make their forecasts. These numerical models are classified into four main classes. The first is global models, which focus on the entire northern hemisphere. The second is national models, which focus on the USA. The third is regional models. In the USA, it has been standard practice to drive securing pins through overlaps in the geotextile filter, at 0. 6 to 1. 5 m centres, even if the joints are sewn or heat-bonded. With unbounded rip-rap on some sites, there is a tendency for the stone to move after placement as it settles into its final resting position. As this has been found to cause tears in the geotextile at the securing pins, it now appears safer to place the geotextile fairly loosely over the prepared surface, using the minimum possible number of securing pins.
