AVE occurs when someone who is striving for abstinence from a particular behavior or substance experiences a setback, such as a lapse or relapse. Instead of viewing the incident as a temporary setback, the individual perceives it as evidence of personal failure, leading to increased feelings of guilt, shame, and hopelessness... It can impact someone who is trying to be abstinent from alcohol and drug use in addition to someone trying to make positive changes to their diet, exercise, and other aspects of their lives. 2, record 1, English, - abstinence%20violation%20effect

Bayesian analysis uses Bayes’ theorem to update the prior probability distribution in light of the results of a study, in order to produce a posterior distribution. It can be used in a single study or in a meta-analysis. Statistical inference(point estimates, confidence intervals, etc.) is based on the posterior distribution. The posterior distribution can also be used as the prior distribution for the next study. This approach is controversial when it depends on opinions, which may vary. However, its use has become commonplace in economic evaluation, as it allows the creation of complex models with different evidence sources and the determination of uncertainty. 2, record 12, English, - Bayesian%20analysis

1, record 12, French, - analyse%20bay%C3%A9sienne

(T) he true criterion of an irremovable fixture consists in the united application of several tests : 1st. Real or constructive annexation of the article in question to the realty; 2nd. Appropriation or adaptation to the use or purpose of that part of the realty with which it is connected; 3rd. The intention of the party making the annexation to make the article a permanent accession to the freehold, this intention being inferred from the nature of the article affixed, the relation and situation of the party making the annexation, and the policy of the law in relation thereto, the structure and mode of the annexation and the purpose or use for which the annexation was made. Of these three tests, the clear tendency of modern authority seems to give pre-eminence to the question of intention to make the article a permanent accession to the freehold, and the others seem to derive their chief value as evidence of such intention.(Reiter, Risk & McLellan, 2nd ed., 1982, pp. 131-2) 1, record 17, English, - irremovable%20fixture

"Common industry usage substitutes the term "tamper-evident" for the term "tamper-resistant".... The FDA has not objected to this substitution, nor has it made any official recognition of it as a synonymous term.... [It] seems likely that use of both terms will continue for some time. Minimization procedures are designed to prevent the broad power of "foreign intelligence gathering" from being used for routine criminal investigations. In a number of instances, however, there are overlaps between foreign intelligence gathering and criminal investigations. One common minimization procedure is what is known as an "information-screening wall. "These "walls" require an official not involved in the criminal investigation to review the raw materials gathered by FISA [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act] surveillance and only pass on information that might be relevant evidence. The purpose is to ensure that criminal investigators do not use FISA authority for criminal investigations. 1, record 30, English, - minimization%20procedure

It is possible to extract evidence and synthesize an objective and valid picture even when employing biased or potentially biased sources of information. A principal objective in the process of auditing is the search for and correction of biases. An auditor determines the presence or lack of bias in a group of accounts receivable by circularizing persons against whom claims are held. Offsetting biases are regularly taken advantage of in the construction of "internal controls". By the operation of a normally patterned system of "internal check", valid results are deemed to follow by placing individuals with independent, opposing interests in opposition to each other and making them participants in the recording of the same transaction. The assumption underlying any such device is that the offsetting biases are of the same relative order of magnitude. 2, record 31, English, - bias

Two basic grain grading systems are in use throughout the world : the fair average quality system and the numerical system. The numerical system is the more common system. It separates grain into divisions of quality defined by grading factors. Each division is identified by a grade name or number and grain is bought and sold on the basis of these grades. Buyers obtain the specific quality desired by selecting the grain by grade name and number. In some grading systems, such as Canada's, a certificate of grade is acceptable to an importer, and no additional samples are required as evidence of quality. In other systems, importers demand additional safeguards, such as a sample, together with analytical details of the actual grain being shipped. 1, record 35, English, - numerical%20system

3, record 38, French, - %C3%A9criture%20des%20virus

The long battle over CFCs between politicians, industry, and the scientific community has been called the Ozone War. The issue was(and to a large degree still is) whether the use of CFCs would result in a deleterious thinning of the ozone layer, as scientists argued, or whether, as industry countered, the scientists were basing their calculations on flimsy evidence and, furthermore, had no understanding of economic realities. 1, record 40, English, - ozone%20war

2, record 40, French, - guerre%20de%20l%27ozone

The issues-and-examples paradigm proposes a mechanism for determining when and how knowledge could be presented by a coach to motivate learning in the performance of an activity. If there is evidence of weaknesses, critical issues are mentioned when the student has just failed to use them, that is, in the context of moves she has just been thinking about. That makes the issues relevant. Then they are introduced with the help of concrete examples in the form of better solutions for the current moves. At that time, the student perceives them as crucial to successfully completing the activity. That makes them memorable. 1, record 41, English, - issues%2Dand%2Dexamples%20paradigm

Tamper-Evident Closures. Tamper-evident caps have been in use for years, though earlier they were referred to as "pilferproof caps". Today these metal and plastic caps provide visible evidence of seal disruption and are used for over-the-counter(OTC) drugs, beverages, and food products. The two kinds of TE closures are "breakaway" or "tear band" closures used for pressurized and general sealing applications, and TE vacuum designs for vacuum sealing applications. The closure user can also fulfill tamper-evident requirements through the use of innerseals.... 1, record 42, English, - tamper%2Devident%20closure

Common industry usage substitutes the term "tamper-evident" for the term "tamper-resistant" .... The FDA has not objected to this substitution, nor has it made any official recognition of it as a synonymous term ... [It] seems likely that use of both terms will continue for some time. All the practitioners and the FDA are agreed that the term "tamper-proof" is not appropriate and must not be used. 1, record 42, English, - tamper%2Devident%20closure

Many environmental variables have stability envelopes within which they commonly fluctuate, and if such variables are forced beyond the limits of the envelope, they may assume quite different or unknown trajectories in time. In these cases, variables which are predicted to move outside their normal stability limits might be considered as significant impacts, while small shifts within the envelopes might be considered insignificant. Use of this approach is limited to our knowledge of stability envelopes as supported by empirical evidence. 1, record 43, English, - stability%20envelope

1, record 43, French, - limite%20d%27%C3%A9quilibre%20de%20variabilit%C3%A9%20naturelle
