Hierarchical classification. Classifiers utilizing hierarchical, or sequential, architectures generally perform well for remote sensing applications. Typically, when discriminating land cover types, there is a benefit to separating the data into general groupings rather than specific classes, as well as to removing those classes which are easily separable from the rest. This multiscale framework in terms of class separability reduces the complexity of the classifier, both in terms of training and decision making. This is because the classifier does not need to distinguish between all classes, just one class(or a few) from the rest. By employing a hierarchical classifier, different inputs can be used at each level of the overall classification process depending on the classes to be discriminated. This then allows for a possible reduction in the number of inputs, or for the use of class specific data such as topography, at a given level. The described benefits of a hierarchical architecture generally lead to an increase in classification accuracy.... A hierarchical version of the above MRF-based classifier was developed to account for the class dependent variation in backscatter associated with changes in incidence angle. A methodology for "correcting" SAR data according to class-specific models is described and is then presented as the first level in the architecture of the hierarchical classifier.

Phillips has released an AFDX(Avionics Full Duplex Switched Ethernet) PCI Mezzanine(PMC) card for avionics simulation and test. AFDX is an advanced protocol standard to interconnect avionics subsystems. Its first major use will be in the Airbus A3XX. The PMC694/AFDX module is among the first products on the market, supporting this new avionics bus. It is designed for applications like end system simulation, test systems and prototyping of avionics components. The greatest benefit from this implementation can be gained when used in the Phillips ADS-3000 V2 environment. The standard is based on widely approved and adopted standards like ethernet(IEEE 802. 3) and IP/UDP(Internet Protocols). Modifications to these standards have been made to cope with the need for deterministic response times and limited jitter.

Larger companies, particularly publicly held corporations, are required to use the accrual basis of accounting. From the accrual accounting perspective, the purpose of the expenditure determines whether or not the expenditure is an expense at the time of payment. For example, if a business expends cash for office supplies, no expense occurs until the office supplies are used in business operations. The spending of cash is not the "critical event". Thus, when a business buys postage stamps, it has purchased an "asset", that is, an item that has a future potential to benefit the company. If the stamps are used to mail an invoice to a customer or supplier, then the "expense" occurs because the stamp(asset) has no further benefit for the company.
