There are two ways that a searcher can circumvent this tedious process of using the Grantee indexes to "go back" on a title. Another lawyer can let him borrow his title abstract... The other method is the use of "tie-in clauses". For example, assume that at the end of the legal description in a 1984 deed from G. H. to I. J., the conveyancer who prepared the deed were to add a clause to the following effect : Being the same lands described in a deed from E. F. to G. H. dated Jan. 7, 1972 and recorded at(Halifax) Registry of Deeds office on Jan. 7, 1972 in Book 2529 at page 47. The searcher wouldn’t waste time searching the Grantee index, starting in 1984-he’d immediately open Book 2529 to page 47 and examine the deed to G. H.(Howlett, 1986, p. 5). 1, record 8, English, - tie%2Din%20clause

Compulsive reflection is one way of ensuring that the higher-level axioms in a multilevel database are use in determining the course of lower-level inference. Although compulsive reflection is more expensive than universal subgoaling is, it is more reliable. Our definition of compulsive reflection assumes that, in addition to the metalevel axioms defining the desired baselevel behavior, the initial database contains an appropriate clause to seed its metalevel reasoning. The clause is obtained by applying the function newmeta to the initial baselevel database. 1, record 14, English, - compulsive%20reflection

In the nineteenth century the standard of civilization was explicitly asserted in the text of conventions-first, in the Declaration of St. Petersburg, which refers to the "laws of humanity", then in the final Protocol of the Brussels Conference of 1874, and later in the famous de Martens clause included in the preambles to Hague Convention II of 1899 and Hague Convention IV of 1907. Resolution 1653(XVI) of the United Nations General Assembly, of 24 November 1961, on illegality of the use of nuclear weapons incorporates the sense of these declarations; according to its text, "the laws of humanity" prohibit causing unnecessary human suffering as well as indiscriminate suffering and destruction. 1, record 16, English, - laws%20of%20humanity
