Response generation is an important component in developing a conversational dialog system. End users often judge the quality of a dialog system based on the quality of the responses they hear from the system. This relates to the Gricean cooperative principle, which describes how people interact with one another and posits that conversational contributions are made as required, at the appropriate time, and for the purpose of advancing the conversation. One aspect of system quality is the avoidance of obscure or non-responsive expressions, and preferably the use of phrases with which the user is familiar. 1, record 17, English, - response%20generation

The theory of planned behaviour(TPB) started as the theory of reasoned action in 1980 to predict an individual' s intention to engage in a behaviour at a specific time and place. The theory was intended to explain all behaviours over which people have the ability to exert self-control. The key component to this model is behavioural intent; behavioural intentions are influenced by the attitude about the likelihood that the behaviour will have the expected outcome and the subjective evaluation of the risks and benefits of that outcome. The TPB has been used successfully to predict and explain a wide range of health behaviours and intentions including smoking, drinking, health services utilization, breastfeeding, and substance use, among others. 1, record 20, English, - theory%20of%20planned%20behaviour

Self-polishing copolymer (SPC) antifoulings release biocides via a hydrolysis reaction of an acrylic polymer with seawater. This is a chemical reaction and only occurs at the surface of the coating. SPC technology combines controlled polishing rate and optimum biocide release with inherent self-smoothing for hull roughness control and maximum fuel efficiency. 3, record 26, English, - self%2Dpolishing%20copolymer%20antifouling%20paint

"Controlled solubility copolymers" or "self-polishing copolymers(SPC) "are modern coatings in which, initially for TBT [tributyltin] paints, the biocide was chemically part of the paint matrix or resin, for example the copolymer tributylin methacrylate. When immersed, hydrolysis caused the copolymer to cleave, or hydrolyse, splitting the copolymer into a TBT(the biocide) and an acrylate(the resin) component. The TBT then released and acted as a biocide, the acrylate dissolved to ablate the paint. TBT-free SPCs have now been developed which use copper, zinc or silyl acrylate copolymers. 5, record 26, English, - self%2Dpolishing%20copolymer%20antifouling%20paint

Since the Villers-Cotterêts Edict in 1539, the French language has officially been a component of national identity. Today, the Constitution(article 2) specifies that the language of the Republic is French, while remaining open to the use of other languages. La Délégation générale à la langue française et aux langues de France(DGLFLF) is a government department whose role is to guide national language policy at inter-ministerial level. Attached to the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the department's role is to examine, pilot and co-ordinate issues, and to track the application of legislative and statutory mechanisms(Law of 4th August 1994 on the use of the French language). It is supported by a network of partner organisations including the Senior Council for the French Language and the General Commission for Terminology and Neologisms. 1, record 34, English, - D%C3%A9l%C3%A9gation%20g%C3%A9n%C3%A9rale%20%C3%A0%20la%20langue%20fran%C3%A7aise%20et%20aux%20langues%20de%20France

With the combined efforts of the federal, provincial and territorial governments, community groups, social agencies libraries, schools, volunteer groups and business community, CAP helps Canadians, wherever they live, take advantage of emerging opportunities in the new global knowledge-based economy. Under CAP, public locations like schools, libraries and community centres act as "on-ramps" to the Information Highway, and provide computer support and training. Consolidation within the industry has led to an increase in co-branding efforts, as a number of major companies have moved to leverage the power of their valued brands. For instance, Munchies combines the value of Frito-Lay’s (Plano, Texas) Rold Gold name with Quaker Squares from Quaker Oats Company (Chicago). Reliance on strength can be a curse as well as a blessing. I’ve noticed that many excellent cross country runners who rely on strength disappear during the track season, either because they lack the basic speed, or because that speed hasn’t been developed properly. In cross-country, it's easy for a runner to use mileage-built strength to be successful without working on speed. Carbon dioxide(CO2) is a normal component of the Earth's atmosphere. [It] allows short wavelength solar radiation to pass through the atmosphere and heat the Earth.... CO2 is an integral part of the plant photosynthesis process. Plants absorb CO2 during the day as they generate energy, and they give off CO2 at night as they respire or use energy. A certain proportion of the CO2 is used to build new organic tissue so that there is a net negative flux of CO2 between plants and the atmosphere. This is later balanced after plants die and their organic material is decomposed. 1, record 59, English, - net%20negative%20flux

... spectrographs in astronomy :... the process of diffraction... depends on the wave-like properties of the light, and uses a component called a diffraction grating to actually separate the light into its component wavelengths. A famous physicist... Henry A. Rowland, was the first person to make high quality diffraction gratings for use in science....

For mechanical systems and equipment, a prescriptive approach would list the minimum required equipment efficiencies. To accomplish an approximate gradient wind calculation that depends only on the pressure field, a cruder approximation for the cross-isobaric component is required. One such approach is to use the relationship between Kp(curvature of the isobars) and Kx to infer the tendency for the flow to straighten. As Kp gets closer to and surpasses Kx, we can think in terms of introducing a stronger and stronger "dissipation" mechanism, which would prevent the curvature of the flow, K from ever reaching Kx. 1, record 76, English, - curvature%20of%20the%20isobars

Although they comprise a subset of the functions of knowledge communications systems, knowledge presentation systems implement a radically different pedagogical approach. By simply making knowledge available rather than actively communicating it, they leave most of the responsibility of managing the learning process to the student, who acts as his own tutor. In this sense, knowledge presentation systems are related to microworlds, which use a restricted simulation to let students explore a domain. The difference between simulation-based microworlds and knowledge presentation systems derives from the AI component central to the latter. While a microworld environment simulates a domain under study, a knowledge presentation system simulates knowledge about this domain. The student does not explore the world : he explores knowledge about the world. 1, record 85, English, - knowledge%20presentation%20system
