Touch-less cleaning is now a fairly common phrase used in the janitorial industry. Most often relating to cleaning toilets or other restroom and kitchen fixtures and floors. Touch-less means the person doing the cleaning doesn’t have to touch the fixture with their hands, but rather is able to clean them, and clean them well, using tools and wands, rather than rags and mops. 1, record 1, English, - touch%2Dless%20cleaning

... the term "state of technology"(a standard term used in licences) is a dynamic concept and both the availability and the economic feasibility of the technology become issues. Dr. Rainer HAMM(Rechtsanwalt)(defence attorney) commented that there is a sensitive major tax on waste water. Those who have a licence to use a river to pollute have to pay a fee depending on the degree of pollution. The waste water effluent fees are quite effective to minimize pollution.... Large corporations also have high incentive to develop technology. It is they who develop technology. While universities can and do develop standards, they cannot build technology and compare standards. That can only be done by industry itself. Thus it is the industry which makes the law by defining the standards of technology. They are motivated to do so by the new device, popular in the United States, known as "technology forcing. "Dr. HAMM was however sceptical of using criminal law to pursue dynamic concepts. If you include a state of technology that can change any time and then punish someone for not having fulfilled the state of technology, then you blur the distinction between what is criminal and what is not criminal. 2, record 14, English, - technology%20forcing

During the First World War, [Reginald Crundall Punnett, geneticist and professor of biology] put his knowledge of the genetics of poultry to a practical use, and developed a technique of separating male and female chicks using sex-linked plumage colours. In this way, the less useful male chicks could be separated from the more useful female chicks and destroyed. This improved the efficiency of the poultry industry. Punnett, in fact, created the first autosexing breed of poultry, the Cambar chicken. 2, record 15, English, - autosexing%20breed

Originally, electronic cigarettes were three-part devices, made up of a battery, an atomizer and cartridge, which was filled with e-liquid.... the design had some flaws. Working with three different components proved somewhat tricky for some, and a lot of people complained about leaks when using or refilling the cartridges. But, like in any successful industry, things evolved pretty fast, and soon designers came up with a solution that made using e-cigarettes a lot easier. They decided to compress the atomizer and cartridge into a single unit, that eliminated leaking problems almost completely, was able to hold significantly more e-liquid, and was easy to screw on to the battery. This hybrid was called the cartomizer, from the two parts combined to create it(the cartridge and the atomizer). 1, record 21, English, - cartomizer

The exploration department at Cogema Resources... recognized the technical difficulties and expense encountered in drilling deep vertical holes. The solution was a technique called navigational drilling(or Navi-drilling) that was used in the oil industry and, less often, in mining.... Simply put, navi-drilling allows operators to begin drilling a new hole 500 to 600 metres below the surface by using a pre-existing "pilot hole. "This significantly reduces costs as the same hole is used for up to six navi-drilling holes. A steerable motor with a rotor system turns a cutting bit. The motor is powered by hydraulic force created by the mixture of water and drilling muds pumped inside the drill string. The fluid is pumped through the motor and returns to the surface at a rate of up to 250 litres per minute. Newbergh Industries Limited ("Newbergh") has developed and patented a technology which will greatly enhance the steering currently being used in oil and gas field directional drilling. This technology, which is known under the acronym of "HANDS", which stands for Hydraulic Activated Navigational Drilling System, will be incorporated in a so-called benthousing, which will make this piece of equipment remote adjustable whilst drilling for the first time. Its implication will improve drilling performance in terms of speed as well as quality and will result in considerable cost savings for the oil companies and savings in energy to drill the bore holes. 6, record 30, English, - navigational%20drilling

3, record 30, French, - forage%20multibranche

Diatomite products that are further processed are called calcined and flux calcined diatomite. Most diatomite products are used in filtering applications. With a large particle size distribution, the smallest of the particles occupy space between larger particles. This reduces the rates of flow through the filter. The purpose of calcining is to reduce the particle size distribution. The use of the term calcined is ingrained in the diatomite industry and markets so it is used frequently, but diatomite is actually sinterized not calcined. Sintering reduces the size distribution by melting the smallest particles together. To produce calcined diatomite the natural product is heated to between 900°C and 1100°C. The high temperatures burn off organic contaminants, and shrink and harden the individual particles. Some of the diatom frustules are sintered into small clusters. The resulting calcined diatomite has a density of about 125 to 150 kg per cubic meter. Flux calcined diatomite is produced using the same methods except a fluxing agent is added before heating. 3, record 32, English, - flux%2Dcalcined%20diatomite

Fairly soon after the introduction of talkies in the late 1920s, the movie industry settled on using an analogue optical soundtrack on the edge of the film to carry the sound. This was read by the projector and converted to an electrical audio signal. This was a very noisy medium, so in the absence of advanced noise reduction technology such as Dolby A(the cinema equivalent of, and precursor to, the Dolby B and C noise reduction systems on compact cassettes), the situation was eased by sharply cutting the treble response(at around 5kHz). The bass was also cut, which accounts for the characteristic pinched sound of old movies. The recommended system of frequency response tailoring was called ’Academy Sound. ’ 1, record 43, English, - Academy%20sound

3, record 47, French, - regroupement%20des%20grands%20%C3%A9tablissements

Given the complexity of measuring price changes in the air industry, different approaches have been used to develop indicators. Statistics Canada has produced price indices for both the domestic and international markets, using "chained Laspeyre" indices. For various reasons that have to do, among other things, with consistency between modes, another set of indices has been developed in Transport Canada.... The close parallel between the two series attests to the quality of these estimates. The slower growth of Transport Canada's price increase estimates arises from the fact that Statistics Canada treats economy, discount and deep discount fares as different services, whereas Transport Canada essentially blends them into one category. 3, record 50, English, - deep%20discount%20fare

3, record 50, French, - tarif%20tr%C3%A8s%20r%C3%A9duit

The exposure matrix was developed to account for job, plant, and era dependent differences in TCDD [2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin] exposure. The TCDD exposure estimates are based on (1) the concentration of TCDD in micrograms per gram present in process materials; (2) the duration of exposure to TCDD contamination, expressed as a fraction of a work day; and (3) a qualitative contact factor (0.05-1.5) to account for the extent of worker contact with the TCDD contaminated material. These three factors are multiplied together to yield a daily TCDD exposure score. The sum of the daily exposure scores constituted an individual’s cumulative exposure score. Daily TCDD exposure scores range from 0.001 to 1250. Cumulative TCDD exposure scores are distributed from 0.002 to 1,651,611 exposure score days. The TCDD cumulative exposure score, which incorporates both duration and level of exposure, provides a means for ranking workers for evaluating the relationship between TCDD exposure and mortality in a retrospective cohort study analysis. 2, record 52, English, - exposure%20score

Demand-side management(DSM) programs consist of the planning, implementing, and monitoring activities of electric utilities which are designed to encourage consumers to modify their level and pattern of electricity usage. In the past, the primary objective of most DSM programs was to provide cost-effective energy and capacity resources to help defer the need for new sources of power, including generating facilities, power purchases, and transmission and distribution capacity additions. However, due to changes that are occurring within the industry, electric utilities are also using DSM as a way to enhance customer service. DSM refers to only energy and load-shape modifying activities that are undertaken in response to utility-administered programs. It does not refer to energy and load-shape changes arising from the normal operation of the marketplace or from government-mandated energy-efficiency standards. 1, record 53, English, - demand%2Dside%20management

In many countries, bread is ready for distribution to consumers when it leaves the oven. In others, particularly the United States and Canada, much of the bread is wrapped, some is sliced and wrapped. Although slicing and wrapping are not normally considered part of breadmaking technology, they deserve special attention because the quality of the baked bread could be ruined by improper slicing or wrapping. Three types of commercial slicers are available for the baking industry : slicers using circular blades, slicers using straight blades, and slicers with continuous band blades. Most white pan bread is sliced on machines using continuous blades. 1, record 58, English, - slicing

The lingonberry fruitworm is a small moth whose larvae borrow into and feed on lingonberry fruit. Feeding damage causes berry loss, but most of the problems are caused by the wthitish caterpillars emerging from the fruit after it is picked. This results in reduced marketability. There is increasing interest in domesticated lingonberry cultivars from the US and Europe, and several of these cultivars are now being tested here. To ensure industry growth the fruit must be free of insects and insect damage. With this research goal, the Atlantic Cool Climate Crop Research Centre tested a monitoring system for the fruitworm using "pheromones". 1, record 61, English, - lingonberry%20fruitworm

The Commercial Float Zone Furnace(CFZF) is a materials science crystal growth facility developed jointly by the Canadian Space Agency(CSA) and the German Space Agency(DARA). This payload will be launched in the SPACEHAB module on the Space Shuttle mission STS-77 by the NASA Office of Space Access and Technology. Twelve materials science experiments using four sample materials will be conducted by scientists from the three partner countries during this mission. The CFZF is designed to allow production of larger samples of industrially important material. The pure samples that will be produced are of great interest to the electronics industry; these samples will be large enough to allow evaluation of the space-based processes and to suggest improvements to around-based processing. 3, record 68, English, - commercial%20float%20zone%20furnace

A bell jar is a glass vessel open at the bottom and closed on top like a bell. It is used by the semiconductor industry primarily in vacuum operations-the vacuum being created within the bell jar. Accessories include the sealing apparatus between the bell jar and the collar of the vacuum equipment. These are made of neoprene or Viton-O-Ring and covered with vacuum grease that has a very low vapor pressure. A vacuum system using the bell jar as a vacuum vessel has been one of the primary methods of depositing thin films on electronic circuits. 1, record 72, English, - bell%20jar

A standard on-line food industry technique to monitor a range of food constituents. NIR [near infrared] instruments have been used for more than 20 years to determine protein content of grains. Current on-line applications in the food processing area include the quantitative determination of moisture, fat, oil, sugars, and protein in products such as coffee, orange juice, milk powder, breakfast cereals, soft drinks, snack foods, process cheese, and flour... The instruments have an infrared light source which is collimated and filtered into specific wavelengths... it measures the absorbance of the analyte rather than the analyte itself. Thus all NIR an analysers have to be calibrated for each sample type using a primary test method... 1, record 76, English, - near%20infrared%20spectroscopy%20analyser

The steps in the estimation procedure are the following. First, inventory book values are deflated using an appropriate price index, lagged and weighted to reflect the commodity composition of stocks, the average stock turnover period and the typical accounting method in a given industry. This yields new inventory book values measured at the prices of the base period. The change in this new volume series, referred to as the "physical change", is then revalued by the application of a price index reflecting the average market price prevailing for the current period. This revalued inventory change is called the value of physical change at current prices. 1, record 78, English, - value%20of%20physical%20change%20in%20inventories
