A statistical characteristic of the usual content of a substance in soils. 1, record 2, English, - usual%20background%20value
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The variability of the natural pedo-geochemical content and of the usual content often increases with the size of the portion of the soil mantle investigated. So it is recommended to assess the natural pedo-geochemical value and the usual value at a spatial scale similar to those that it will be used for. For instance, if the natural pedo-geochemical value or the usual value is used to evaluate soil contamination at a local scale, i. e. agricultural plot, contaminated site, watershed, it is necessary to refer to the natural pedo-geochemical value or the usual value that has been determined at the same scale. 1, record 2, English, - usual%20background%20value
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 OBS
As presented here, the background contents are concentrations, e.g. mass of substance for a mass unit of soil. It can be useful to determine the stocks of substances in soil, as a mass of substance for a definite volume or area of soil. To this end, the bulk density of each soil horizon (or layer) and its thickness have to be taken into account. 1, record 2, English, - usual%20background%20value

1, record 2, French, - valeur%20de%20fond%20habituelle
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 OBS
1, record 2, French, - valeur%20de%20fond%20habituelle
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 OBS
1, record 2, French, - valeur%20de%20fond%20habituelle

... From the character of the bran and the percentages of flour obtained, an opinion can be formed of the approximate milling quality of the small samples. The flours produced are substantially free from bran and germ and therefore can be satisfactorily used for one or more predictive tests for baking quality. The tests usually applied depend on the quantity of flour available. The usual tests are 1) protein content, 2) Zelehy sedimentation test and 3) micromixograph test. By using these methods, it is possible to eliminate a large number of hybrids which mill poorly or yeild flour of unsatisfactory quality, without having to multiply them through later generations to produce larger samples required for full scale quality tests. 1, record 6, English, - micromixograph%20test

1, record 6, French, - essai%20au%20micromixographe
