L'uvulo-palato-pharyngoplastie (UPP), préconisée dans les apnées obstructives, vise à élargir l'oro-pharynx. Réalisée sous anesthésie générale, elle constitue en une amygdalectomie associée à une résection des piliers postérieurs de l'amygdale, d'une partie de la luette ainsi que des replis muqueux de la paroi postérieure du pharynx. À court terme, l'UPP peut supprimer le ronflement et diminuer le nombre des apnées obstructives.
