The load is usually carried on the traction wheels and the steering is at the rear, so that the transportation of a load does not adversely affect the traction or the steering of the vehicle. The large driving wheels in front are suited to carry the concentration of tractor and working load, thus providing a maximum of tractive effort for traveling, light or loaded. This type of crane is generally of 5-ton capacity and has a boom, hinged on top of the frame, providing the maximum of reach with a minimum of required headroom. The boom is generally of balanced cantilever girder design, power-operated, and can be raised and lowered by power from the driver's seat. For a satellite in an equatorial orbit, the pitch axis is aligned approximately with the Earth's spin axis. The pitch axis is also the spin axis for the spin-stabilised satellite.

Since the terminology may be based either on the action of the accelerating vehicle or the reaction of the passenger, the terms used are often confusing to a reader without prior knowledge of the system of terminology used. Probably the most easily understood system is the eyeballs in, eyeballs out, eyeballs down, eyeballs up, etc., terminology used by test pilots, which refers to the sensations experienced by the person being accelerated. Thus, the acceleration experienced in an aircraft pullout or inside loop is eyeballs down. Note that, in the NASA vehicle(center of gravity displacement) terminology, this is-az acceleration. Some physiological-acceleration terminologies designate accelerations in terms of the equivalent displacement acceleration of the subject as if he were starting from rest. In such terminologies a man standing up or sitting down on the surface of the earth is experiencing 1 g of headward acceleration because of gravity. Other descriptive terms used in this way are footward, forward(the acceleration experienced by a man pressed into the seat back by an accelerating vehicle), rearward, leftward, rightward, spineward, sternumward, and tailward. One terminology based on reaction uses the terms head-to-foot(the acceleration generated by a pullout in an aircraft), chest-to-back, foot-to-head, and back-to-chest.

Vehicle trim height is noted by height sensors. They are used to note changes in the load on the vehicle and allow the suspension to compensate for it, maintaining the ideal body height. In addition to noting load changes within the vehicle and compensating for them, some height sensors are used to inform the suspension module of road ondulations(such as railroad tracks). In addition to vehicle height, the module requires input signals to indicate which part of the vehicle needs a height correction. One sensor, located in the front of the rear axle detects load changes in the luggage compartment and passenger rear seats. The remaining two sensors are positioned at each front wheel to detect driver and passenger seat loads.

An additional height sensor may be located in the wheel arch, measuring body height, but this time relative to the wheel, playing the role of a body displacement sensor.

Un capteur, situé en avant de l'essieu arrière, mesure les variations de charge dans le coffre et au niveau des sièges arrière. Les deux autres capteurs sont situés au niveau de chaque roue avant, pour mesurer la charge supportée par le siège du conducteur et le siège du passager.

On peut aussi trouver un capteur de hauteur supplémentaire dans le passage de roue, mesurant la hauteur de la caisse, mais par rapport à la roue cette fois, jouant ainsi le rôle d'un capteur de débattement de caisse.

Using the technology of dual infrared sensors mounted inside the dash panel, Jeep's Dual-Zone Climate Control System independently measures the body surface temperature of both the driver and front passenger. By measuring the actual surface temperature of the front seat occupants, rather then the air temperature around them as most climate control systems do, the new Jeep can direct hot or cold air flow to continually meet the driver and passenger's perceived comfort level. As conditions in the vehicle change, due to exterior temperature or sunlight, the system adjusts to counter those circumstances.
