Westmorland Institution is located in the village of Dorchester, approximately 40 kilometers from Moncton, New Brunswick. Originally an annex to Dorchester Penitentiary, this institution was established as an autonomous institution in 1975 and was named for the county in which it is located. Originally designed as an agricultural operation, Westmorland Institution has evolved into a full-fledged correctional facility offering a range of personal development, academic and vocational programs which are focused on addressing the criminogenic needs of the offenders. The geographical location of Westmorland permits the institution to carry out a farm operation on approximately 1200 hectares of land. Westmorland Institution operates without the use of physical security devices such as fences, towers or weapons, but is largely dependent upon continuous interaction between staff and inmates heading to timely resolution of issues. The whole complex includes row houses and a community building containing unit staff office facilities. 1, record 1, English, - Westmorland%20Institution

1, record 1, French, - %C3%89tablissement%20Westmorland

Dorchester Penitentiary opened on July 14th, 1880. It is the second-oldest continuously operating corrections facility in Canada. The institution, located in the village of Dorchester, NB, is approximately 38 km east of Moncton. Prior to the opening in 1987 of the Atlantic Institution in Renous, Dorchester Penitentiary was responsible for the custody of all maximum security offenders for the entire Atlantic region. Today, the facility is classified as a medium-security Institution. Dorchester penitentiary thrives to provide offenders with progressive rehabilitative programs, with the goal of maximizing their potential to eventually reintegrate into society as law-abiding citizens. 1, record 2, English, - Dorchester%20Penitentiary

1, record 2, French, - P%C3%A9nitencier%20de%20Dorchester
