The sulfate salt of a vinca alkaloid extracted from Vinca rosea L. (Apocynaceae), C46H58N4O9.H2SO4; used as an antineoplastic in the palliative treatment of lymphomas, including generalized Hodgkins’ disease, lymphosarcoma, reticulum-cell sarcoma, and advanced mycosis fungoides, and of neuroblastoma, Letterer-Siwe disease, choriocarcinoma resistant to other agents, breast carcinoma resistant to other agents, and embryonal carcinoma of the testis. Administered intraveinously. Major side effects are nausea, vomiting, and bone marrow depression.

El uso de quimioterapia en [el tratamiento del sarcoma de] Kaposi ha ido disminuyendo al mejorar la utilización de fármacos antirretrovirales combinados. Se emplea comúnmente vincristina y bleomicina. Ahora se sabe que no debe usarse adriamicina, ya que el pronóstico de los pacientes que la utilizaron fue peor, con reactivaciones graves. Otra combinación muy usual es bleomicina, vincristina y vinblastina.

OBS

ABV: siglas en inglés de tres medicamentos: adriamicina, bleomicina y vinblastina. Esta combinación produce efectos [secundarios] como la baja en el número de elementos de la sangre: leucopenia, anemia y trombocitopenia; pérdida temporal del cabello, náusea, diarrea, fatiga ocasional y fiebre.
