The Transition House Association of Nova Scotia member organizations provide transitional services to women(and their children) who are experiencing violence and abuse, including culturally relevant services to Mi’kmaw people. Settlement Assistance and Family Support Services(SAFSS), formerly South Asian Family Support Services, is a non-profit, charitable, multi-service organization providing services to the community in the Greater Toronto Area(GTA) with a particular emphasis on un-served and under-served areas of Scarborough. SAFSS opened its doors in 1989 and was incorporated in March 1990 to serve primarily the victims of domestic abuse. Over the years, this program expanded into one of SAFSS’ core programs, encompassing Violence Against Women and Children and Support Group Counseling for Victims of Abuse and Isolated Afghani Senior Women. SAFSS’ other core programs include Language/Skills Development, Information and Orientation Services, Newcomer Settlement Program, Supportive Counselling for Victims of Abuse, Supportive Counselling for Isolated Afghani Senior Women, Investing In Neighbourhood Initiatives, Volunteer Development Program, Program for the Seniors, English Conversation Classes and Free Computer Training.

The Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research is a collaboration between Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation, a charitable trust established to assist victims of family violence, the University of New Brunswick, community-based organizations and government. Research from this Centre looks mainly at woman abuse/violence against women, specifically on rural issues, dating violence, immigrant communities, Aboriginal communities, substance abuse and sexual harassment. In the area of child abuse and neglect, research focuses on developing peaceful environments in schools, anger development and children in foster care. Under family violence, research focuses on the role of the church and participatory action research.
