In Olympic weightlifting, the jerk is the movement that completes the clean and jerk sequence in competition. The lifter cleans the weight from the floor while dropping into a position that very closely resembles the bottom portion of a front squat.

When a tag using a TTF protocol enters the reader's power zone it begins broadcasting a short random number, and continues until it receives acknowledgment from the reader. If several tags broadcast at the same time, each waits a random interval before rebroadcasting. That process enables the reader to identify all the tags in its zone.

Skimboarding(or skimming) is a sport which involves riding a board on an outgoing wave.... Unlike surfing, skimboarding starts on the beach. The skimboarder stands within running distance from the point of entry into the water with the skimboard in hand and waits for a wave. As the desired wave approaches, the skimboarder runs towards the water. Depending on conditions, the board is dropped on a thin layer of water from a receding wave or on the thicker water in front of the wave. Then he or she runs onto the board one foot at a time using a technique known as the "One-Step" while properly positioning the feet and maintaining balance towards the centre of the board.

A hedging transaction of buying futures or call options to protect against a possible price increase in the cost of a commodity.

The "buying hedge" protects against price increases. Suppose an exporter sells a cargo of grain for delivery in six months. If the exporter buys the grain upon receipt of the order, to ensure a supply at a known price, capital would be tied up and storage, insurance and interest costs incurred. However, by buying a contract in the futures market, [he] establishes the price and ensures a supply to meet his commitment, without paying holding costs other than those built into the price.

The Space Shuttle stops within 50 meters of Mir, which is approximately one-half the length of a football field. From that position the Space Shuttle waits for clearance from Mission Control to continue. When the command is given to continue, the Reaction Control System is activated again and the Space Shuttle closes in on Mir at a speed of about 0. 05 meters per second until it reaches a distance of about 9 meters. There, the Space Shuttle stops again and waits for approximately 5 minutes. The Commander and Pilot make sure they can see the docking target clearly and fine-tune the alignment of the Space Shuttle with the docking target. A large black cross called the Stand-off Cross is mounted 30 centimeters(cm) above the back plate in the center of the target. When the Commander has the Stand-off Cross squarely in line with the docking target, he or she maneuvers the Space Shuttle and makes contact with the docking ring. Once a series of hooks is engaged, the Space Shuttle is then successfully docked with Mir.

The term "bottom-fisher" is formed by changing the suffix in the term "bottom-fishing" from "ing" to "er". Since the suffix "er" means "one that does or performs" (Webster’s Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, 1989), a "bottom-fisher" does fishing at or near the bottom of the sea or river (bottom-fishing). In the field of real estate, "bottom-fisher" is used in a figurative sense to convey the image of a person fishing for bargains near the bottom of the market.
