The key to success of an executive development program is helping executives make concrete connections between their unconscious thought patterns and their behaviors. The ’knowing-doing’ gap develops as they mistake ’knowing’ something for their ability to execute on it. Executives, like anybody else, are known to operate on ’autopilot’ a significant percentage of their waking time. They keep doing the same things expecting different results in an ’unthinking way. ’The knowing-doing gap reduces when executives become more aware of their own feelings and automatic thought patterns, and the roles they play in teams or meetings. When designed and executed appropriately, individuals develop and integrate both their leadership and management capabilities.

Sunrise simulator ... slowly lights a bedside lamp to simulate dawn. This simulates sunrise and tells your brain that it is time to get up and start the day. Instructions are included. At the time you select, your lamp will slowly go from off to full on.

CONT

Research has shown that using a dawn simulator (or Bodyclock) can significantly reduce the severity of SAD [seasonal affective disorder] symptoms, and many SAD sufferers use both a Bodyclock and a lightbox to optimise their treatment. It has also been shown that using a Bodyclock improves mood, energy, productivity and quality of sleep and awakening.

OBS

Bodyclocks work by waking you up naturally with light. You choose the time you want to wake up and the light very slowly begins to get brighter(like a sunrise) and starts your body's natural wake-up process. Although you’re still asleep, your body is responding to the increasing light and when the light reaches full brightness you wake up naturally, not suddenly, to a room filled with a sunny glow. By giving your body a kind of "head-start, "instead of still feeling drowsy and confused when you wake up, you feel refreshed, positive and ready for the day ahead.

Simulateur d'aube.

Subject field(s)
  • Reproduction (Medicine)
OBS

The basal body temperature(bbt) is the lowest temperature reached by the body of a healthy person during waking hours. Used in rhythm, it depends upon a single variable(ovulation)... Immediately preceding ovulation, the bbt of a woman drops. From 24-72 hours after this time, a noticeable rise in temperature occurs. By taking advantage of this phenomenon, a woman may determine her time of ovulation by keeping a chart of her bbt for 3 or 4 consecutive months. The woman should be cautioned to avoid unprotected intercourse until the temperature has remained elevated for 3 consecutive mornings.

OBS

  • Stock Exchange
CONT

With the stock market's downward slide, many employers are finding themselves caught in deep water on the issue of stock options. As companies’ stocks dive, the employees they retained and lured with options are waking up to the fact that the current price of the stock has sunk below the exercise price of their options. In current parlance, those options are "underwater".... Some may, for instance, reprice their underwater options or cancel them and issue new ones.

CONT

By far, the best approach to dealing with underwater stock options is to educate and remind optionees that their stock options are a long-term compensation device and that the typical 10-year option term allows more than enough time for their options to come back to life.

According to the psycho-analytic theory of dreams, [day's residues are] elements from the waking state of the day before which are found in the narrative of the dream and in the dreamer's free associations. They are connected, more or less distantly, to the unconscious wish that is fulfilled in the dream. Cases may be met with at any point between two extremes : cases where the presence of a particular day's residue appears to be motivated-in the first analysis at any rate-by a preoccupation or wish of the day before; and, at the opposite pole, cases where it is apparently insignificant daytime elements that are selected because of their being bound by association to the dream-wish.

The trigeminal motor nucleus receives a dense serotonergic projection which originates from nucleus raphe pallidus, nucleus raphe obscurus and, to a lesser extent, from nucleus raphe dorsalis.... It is well known that the activity of the serotonergic neurons in the raphe nuclei is related to the level of arousal of the organism. Thus, the tonic serotonergic influence on the trigeminal motoneurons during waking may contribute to maintaining jaw position and facilitating jaw movements during feeding, grooming, and defense/aggression behaviors. It has been shown that some serotonergic neurons in nucleus raphe dorsalis selectively increase their activity during feeding and grooming behaviors.
