The Canadian Insurance Claims Managers Association(CICMA) was first established in 1952 as an organization to allow claims managers to : promote and enhance the image and general welfare of the general insurance industry in the matters pertaining to the settlement of claims; develop harmonious relations amongst those people engaged in the direction of or the investigation and adjustment of claims; exchange information and discuss matters of common interest; promote and maintain a high standard of ethics in the handling of general insurance claims; further such claims administration as will result in just and proper settlement of meritorious claims; promote arbitration or mediation in the resolution of claims. In order to promote the arbitration process as a cost effective way to resolve inter company disputes, the CICMA is also directly responsible for the administration of the Canadian Inter-Company Arbitration Agreement.

For families in receipt of Social Assistance benefits, the allowance is considered to be assistance for a special need. From May 1, 1990, the maximum monthly benefit per child was $415 until April 1992, when the rate increased to $424.

The analysis of transport costs is extended, and 3 possible paradoxes that may arise when the introduction of changes in transport costs affect the terms of trade are delineated : 1. the improvement in the terms of trade for the transport-producing nation may more than offset the adverse welfare implications of a rise in the real(resource) cost of international transportation, 2. a Metzler-like paradox, and 3. a Lerner paradox, where the shipping country's terms of trade might deteriorate and cause a further drop in welfare.
