SFI is Alberta's welfare program. It includes temporary income support to ensure people with no other resources have access to food, clothing, shelter, and health services. SFI generally provides a standard allowance, a shelter allowance, and health coverage. In some cases, additional special benefits may be available for training and job search, emergencies, or medical and children's needs.
