All used nuclear fuel in Canada is currently held on site in interim storage facilities, which are safe, secure and environmentally sound. Interim storage of used nuclear fuel at a nuclear facility typically consists of two phases known as wet storage and dry storage. Initially, used nuclear fuel bundles are stored under water in bays or pools after they have been removed from the reactors. These reinforced, leak-proof facilities enable the fuel to cool off in a shielded and secure facility. After 6 to 10 years in wet storage, the used nuclear fuel can be safely transferred to dry storage in concrete canisters, containers or silos. 1, record 9, English, - dry%20storage

With the recent installation of the current machine in the IMD (Institute of Marine Dynamics) Offshore Engineering Basin and industry’s need to investigate the effects of structure in shallow water waves and current, there is a requirement to develop modeling technique in this area. This project will develop techniques for quantifying and improving shallow water waves and their interaction with current. 2, record 15, English, - offshore%20engineering%20basin

The Offshore Engineering Basin, illustrated in Figure 1, is a reinforced concrete structure 75 m in length, 32 m wide with a wall height of 4 m. Water levels may be varied up to a depth of 3. 0 m. The entire basin, including the working area surrounding the basin, is serviced by a 5 tonne overhead crane. Waves are generated by means of a segment wave machine, of wet back design, in a fixed "L" configuration. Each segment supports a 2 m high by 0. 5 m wide wave board. These segments are grouped together in sections of four and each section is vertically adjustable to accommodate water depths from 0. 4 m to 3. 0 m. Adjustments are made via electrically powered jacks. Each segment can be operated in five modes of articulation : flapper("20 degrees), piston("400 mm) or three combinations of flapper and piston. These modes optimise segment motion for generating waves in deep, shallow and intermediate water depths, respectively. 3, record 15, English, - offshore%20engineering%20basin

1, record 15, French, - bassin%20d%27essais%20technique%20extrac%C3%B4tier

"Dry boring" methods employ the use of a temporary casing to seal the pile bore through water-bearing or unstable strata overlying suitable stable material. Upon reaching the design depth a reinforcing cage is introduced, concrete is placed in the bore and bought up to the required level. The casing is then withdrawn. "Wet" boring also employs a temporary casing through unstable ground and is used when the pile bore cannot be sealed against water ingress. Boring is then undertaken using a digging bucket to drill through the underlying soils to design depth. The reinforcing cage is lowered into the bore and concrete is placed by tremmie pipe, following which extraction of the temporary casing takes place. 1, record 17, English, - temporary%20casing
