White phosphorus(WP) is a flare-and smoke-producing incendiary weapon, or smoke-screening agent, made from a common allotrope of the chemical element phosphorus. White phosphorus bombs and shells are incendiary devices, but can also be used as an offensive anti-personnel flame compound capable of causing serious burns or death. The agent is used in bombs, artillery shells, and mortar shells which burst into burning flakes of phosphorus upon impact. White phosphorus is commonly referred to in military jargon as "WP". The Vietnam-era slang "Willy(ie) Pete" or "Willy(ie) Peter" is still occasionally heard. 2, record 1, English, - white%20phosphorus

The first really major breakthrough from an optical-communications viewpoint was made by scientists at Corning Glass Works when they developed fibers based on high silicas.... They achieved these low-loss fibers by a flame-hydrolysis method in which silicon tetrachloride with, if desired, a suitable dopant halide, would react with oxygen to form a white silica soot deposited on a silica mandrel. Rotating the mandrel and translating the flame back and forth causes a buildup of the white soot deposit. By varying the dopant concentration during this buildup, the Corning scientists were also able to achieve a gradient in the composition. Subsequently, the soot is consolidated into a clear glass by an appropriate heat treatment, after which the mandrel is removed. From this "preform", as it is called, a fiber can be drawn, those layers deposited first becoming the core and the later layers the cladding. 1, record 3, English, - flame%2Dhydrolysis%20method

5, record 6, French, - fulminate%20de%20mercure%28II%29

Yellow Flame. This flame has a small blue-colored area at the bottom of the flame. The outer portion, or outer envelope, is completely yellow and is usually smoking. This smoke is unburned carbon from the fuel. The yellow, or luminous, portion of the flame is caused by the slow burning of the carbon that is being burnt. Soot is the outcome of the yellow flame which also produces a lower temperature than does the blue flame. The yellow flame is an indication of insufficient primary air. Incomplete combustion is also indicated by a yellow flame a hazardous condition that cannot be allowed. 1, record 7, English, - yellow%20flame
