The Swiss Pine or Arolla Pine(Pinus cembra; family Pinaceae) is a species of pine tree that occurs in the Alps and Carpathian Mountains of central Europe, in Switzerland, France, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine and Romania. It typically grows at(1, 200-) 1, 500-2, 200(-2, 300) m altitude. It often reaches the alpine tree-line in this area. The mature size is up to 25-35 m height, and 1. 5 m trunk diameter. It is a member of the white pine group, Pinus subgenus Strobus, and like all members of that group, the leaves("needles") are in fascicles(bundles) of five, with a deciduous sheath. 5, record 19, English, - Swiss%20stone%20pine

2, record 30, French, - charan%C3%A7on

The Chippewa Logging Company purchased 111, 000 acres of white pine land located on the west bank of the Chippewa river in Rusk County from Cornell University in the late 1880's. The streams that drained this land were short and difficult to drive logs on. A more dependable system to move logs out of the woods other than the annual spring drive was needed. 3, record 35, English, - spring%20drive

According to Don Bright, entomologist with Agriculture Canada, the spruce weevil common in British Columbia is likely the same species as the white pine weevil(Pissodes strobi) common in Eastern Canada. Since the common French equivalent for weevil is "charançon", we propose "charançon de l'épinette" for "spruce weevil". 2, record 36, English, - spruce%20weevil

... Species at their climatological limits would be the most susceptible to changes in stresses. One stressor that was studied was the spruce weevil. It was found that with an increase in average mean temperature of 2.2°C, the hazard rating for this pest would increase over most of British Columbia. 1, record 36, English, - spruce%20weevil

La rouille vésiculeuse, due à Cronartium ribicola ou à Cronartium flaccidum, se développe soit sur les pins et sur la pivoine ou le dompte-venin (C. flaccidum), soit sur les pins et le groseillier (C. ribicola).
