Several automatic decision-making criteria have been used to determine the beginning, end, and center of the target. Two principal types are the sliding window and the sequential observer. The sliding-window detector... stores the number of radar returns at target range within each prescribed incremental range-resolution element during the past N azimuthal trials. If the number of returns exceeds a predesignated value... the target is declared to be detected.

Il y a trois parties bien distinctes dans une fenêtre : 1- la partie inférieure, qui est presque toujours horizontale et qu'on appelle mur d'appui ou simplement appui; 2- les deux parties latérales, qui sont le plus souvent verticales et auxquelles on donne les noms de jambages, de pieds-droits, de montants, et quelquefois de dosserets; 3- la partie supérieure, dite linteau ou traverse, qui consiste en une pièce de bois, de béton, de pierre, de fer, etc., posée horizontalement sur les pieds-droits et destinée à supporter la maçonnerie placée au-dessus.

Every element absorbs X rays in a distinctive manner. At X-ray wavelengths between 23 and 44 angstroms, oxygen-and therefore water-is much more transparent to radiation than is organic material. This fact opens up the possibility of discerning features through water, which makes up about three quarters of the mass of most cells. This part of the X-ray spectrum, called the water window, is quite useful for biological microscopy.
