CONT

The scroll lock key was meant to lock all scrolling techniques, and is a remnant from the original IBM PC keyboard, though it is not used by most modern-day software. In the original design, scroll lock was intended to modify the behavior of the arrow keys. When the scroll lock mode was on, the arrow keys would scroll the contents of a text window instead of moving the cursor. In this usage, scroll lock is a modifier key like Alt and Shift(which modify the function of other keys) and, more specifically, a toggling lock key like Num Lock or Caps Lock, which have a state that persists after the key is released.

CONT

Scroll lock key ... Microsoft Excel is a good example of a software program that uses this key. If scroll lock is enabled on the keyboard when you press any of the arrow keys the screen will move in that direction but the selected cell will not change. However, if scroll lock is not enabled you will be able to navigate through each of the cells using the arrow keys.

OBS

The Scroll Lock key on English keyboards is usually labelled with the words "Shift Lock" in uppercase or lowercase characters.

DEF

A resampling method that uses the data file values of four pixels in a 2 by 2 window to calculate an output data file value by computing a weighted average of the input data file values with a bilinear function.

OBS

Depending upon the relation between the DEM [Digital Elevation Model] and radar resolutions, the interpolation method used to resample from map to radar image geometry can become important. Bilinear interpolation uses the appropriate weighting to distribute the contribution of the local illuminated area into four adjacent radar geometry pixels.

OBS

resampling: Modifying the geometry of an image (which may be from either a remotely sensed or map data source) [that] usually involves rectification and/or registration.

OBS

bilinear interpolation resampling: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

OBS

DEF

In analysis, the removal of certain spectral or spatial frequencies to highlight features in the remaining image.

CONT

Filtering is an operation designed to improve image readability and/or to extract certain information from them. The principle of the various filters is to modify the numerical value of each pixel as a function of the neighbouring pixel values. For example, if the value of each pixel is replaced by the average of its value and those of its eight neighbours the image is smoothed, that is to say, the finer details disappear and the image appears fuzzier. In "mobile window filtering" the programme computes for a given pixel the sum of the products of the neighbouring pixel values multiplied by coefficients given in a table of coefficients, then repeats the operation for the next pixel and so on.

OBS

filtering: term officially approved by the RADARSAT-2 Terminology Approval Group (RTAG).

DEF
