In 1981, Youth and Community Employment Services(YACES) was established with funding provided predominatly by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. The funding was directed primarily at youth. It started in St. Catharines then expanded to the Welland and Fort Erie areas. December 1998 brought a new look to YACES called Job Gym. Of the Manitoba Rural Development. Green Team provides summer employment from June to September for youth 16 to 24 years of age in rural Manitoba. The program also achieves key objectives including park infrastructure and mechanical maintenance, interpretive services, tourism promotion in Provincial Parks and other visitor-oriented natural areas, special projects, grounds improvement and back country cleanup on recreational routes and rural Dutch Elm disease tree replacement.
