The technique of extracting a metal from its soluble salt by an electrolytic cell. It is used in recovery of zinc, cobalt, chromium, and manganese, and has recently been applied to copper when in the form of a silicate ore. For any specific metal, the salt in solution is subjected to electrolysis and is electrodeposited on a cathode made of the metal being extracted. 4, record 8, English, - electrowinning
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Electrowinning (winning or recovering the metal by an electrolytic process) can be carried out on the molten metal or compound, or on a solution of a compound of the metal. In the first process a raw ore is fused (melted) or converted into an easily fusible compound, and the resulting current-conducting solution (electrolyte) is electrolyzed (decomposed by an electric current), producing a relatively pure metallic deposit on one electrode. The second process involves leaching the raw ore ... with an aqueous solution; the resulting solution, or electrolyte, rich in the metal, then is recovered and electrolyzed, again producing a relatively pure metal deposit on one electrode. 5, record 8, English, - electrowinning

Procedure based on the formation of a diazo linkage between enzyme proteins and aryldiazonium electrophilic groups on the insoluble support. Supports containing aromatic amino groups are treated with sodium nitrite in acidic solutions and the resultant activated support reacts with aromatic residues such as the phenolic residue of L-tyrosine or the imidazole residue of L-histidine to give azo derivatives. 1, record 9, English, - diazotization

There are many commercial diazonium salts used as azo coupling reagents, which are usually in a stabilized form(a stable diazotate) produced by reaction with alkali(forming the free base) or with zinc chloride(forming a diazo double salt)... Diazonium ions are weak electrophiles; they react with highly reactive aromatic compounds-with phenols and tertiary aromatic amines-to yield azo compounds... Azo coupling of proteins can be effected by polymers containing aryldiazonium functional groups... Monomers containing aromatic nitro groups grafted onto polymers have been reduced, diazotized, and used to immobilize enzymes. 3, record 9, English, - diazotization

2, record 9, French, - diazotation
