Les termes anglais «slope (ou «gradient») se rendent en français par «pente» (ou «gradient»). Ils indiquent la direction d'une ligne droite dans un graphique. La pente positive monte, indiquant une tendance à la hausse, et la pente négative descend, indiquant une tendance à la baisse. L'abréviation anglaise «ve» fait référence au suffixe qui termine les mots «negative» et «positive». Aucun suffixe de ce type n'est utilisé en français.
