Les milieux abiotiques sont en fait quasi inexistants à la surface du globe. Même dans des conditions drastiques (grandes profondeurs marines, haute atmosphère, domaine cavernicole, résurgences d'eaux chaudes etc., il existe des formes de vie primitive (bactéries en particulier) ou des formes de résistance (spores, graines...) très adaptées.
