Matité : diminution du son normal perçu à la percussion du thorax. Cette diminution est due à l'interposition d'une collection liquide dans la plèvre entre le poumon et la paroi (pleurésies) ou à l'existence de lésions de condensation parenchymateuse sous-jacentes (pneumonies). Il existe une grande variété de nuances, allant de la sonorité thoracique normale à la matité absolue. Dans les cas intermédiaires, on parle de submatité.
