By this Act, the name of the administrative body is changed from "Communauté régionale de l'Outaouais" (CRO) to "Communauté urbaine de l'Outaouais" (CUO). The "Outaouais Regional Community" (ORC) created on 1 January 1970 by an Act of 1969 of the Assemblée législative du Québec and whose name was changed to "Communauté régionale de l'Outaouais" (CRO) in 1983 and to "Communauté urbaine de l'Outaouais" (CUO) in 1986, ceased to exist on 1 January 2002 with the cration of the new city of Gatineau. On 1 January 2002, the towns and cities which were grouped, since 1 January 1970, under the Communauté urbaine de l'Outaouais (CUO) became one city.
