Transitory phase consisting in the onset, within a previously quiet prominence or filament, of internal streamers flowing downwards and upwards along curved trajectories and condensation of bright knots of material from the hotter coronal environment causing the disappearance of the prominence either by dissolution or eruption.

CONT

The activation of a prominence is a transitory phase of a prominence's lifetime, lasting on the average only a few hours.
