Balloon. Shall be reported when the height of the base of a layer aloft or vertical visibility into a surface based layer is determined by observation of a ceiling balloon, pilot balloon or aerological balloon, and the height is computed from the assumed rate of ascent and the time interval between the release of the balloon and its entry into the base of the layer or disappears into a surface based layer.

Ballon. Il faut utiliser «ballon» quand la hauteur de la base d'une couche en altitude, ou la visibilité verticale dans une couche dont la base est à la surface, est déterminée en observant un ballon de mesure du plafond, un ballon-pilote ou un ballon aérologique. La hauteur de la couche est calculée d'après la vitesse ascensionnelle présumée du ballon et le temps écoulé entre le moment où le ballon a été lâché et celui où il est entré dans la base de la couche ou disparaît dans une couche dont la base est à la surface.
