Un certain nombre de phénomènes lumineux, tels que les halos, les parhélies, le cercle parhélique et l'anthélie, paraissent dus à des aiguilles de glace flottant dans l'atmosphère ou descendant lentement. L'anthélie peut être aussi accompagnée de plusieurs images du soleil, faibles et diffuses, qu'on nomme paranthélies.
