Polypropylene fronds have been used as artificial seaweed in seabed scour protection schemes ... since about 1963.... The first artificial seaweed systems consisted of bundles of polypropylene fronds attached to a line about 50 m long which is firmly anchored to the seabed at each end.... More recently, the artificial seaweed fronds have been preassembled onto an interwoven geotextile web with a non-woven geotextile filter sheet bonded to the underside....
