Of the Global Change and the Antarctic (GLOCHANT).

ASPeCt is a programme of multi-disciplinary Antarctic sea ice zone research within the SCAR Global Change Programme. ASPeCt will specifically address key identified deficiencies in our understanding and data from the sea ice zone. The programme is designed to complement and to contribute to the other international programmes in this region and will build on existing and proposed research programmes, and the shipping activities of National Antarctic operators, and will also include a component of data-rescue of valuable historical sea ice zone information.

Slope Orientation. The orientation of the slope to the wind and sun is critical. Leeward slopes (facing away from the prevailing wind) are rapidly loaded by heavy snowfall, even during periods of clear weather. ... The slope's orientation to the sun is also important. South-facing slopes receive the greatest amount of incoming solar radiation and tend to stabilize more quickly, but they may also release as a wet slide when the sun warms them.

Les notions d'orientation et d'exposition se mêlent et s'entremêlent au fil des ouvrages consultés; certains les définissent dans les mêmes termes alors que d'autres établissent des nuances. Après examen de la question, le terminologue en vient à la conclusion que le terme «orientation» s'utilise surtout, mais non exclusivement, relativement à la «disposition de l'axe principal d'un édifice» en rapport avec les points cardinaux et que le terme «exposition» s'utilise surtout, mais non exclusivement, en rapport avec le degré d'exposition d'une façade principale à la lumière du jour, au soleil et aux agents climatiques. Dans la pratique quotidienne cependant il est permis de croire que les deux termes peuvent s'utiliser l'un pour l'autre.
