The Canadian Infectious Disease Society (CIDS) and the Canadian Association for Medical Microbiology (CAMM) officially joined forces on Friday April 30th, 2004, at their Annual General Meeting in Calgary. The two organizations will now form the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease Canada (AMMI Canada). AMMI Canada has as its mandate the promotion of research and education in infectious diseases and microbiology, in addition to providing guidelines for optimal patient care in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. AMMI Canada will be a resource to government and other health-related groups and will communicate important issues in infectious diseases and microbiology to the medical community and the public.
