In "auto-confusion" the male moths are attracted to a dispenser where a pheromone-impregnated powder electrostatically contaminates them, using the insects themselves as flying dispensers (mobile point sources) of pheromone dissemination. The contaminated males serve to enhance the confusion effect, thus reducing or preventing successful mating and reproduction.

Autoconfusion. Cette procédure consiste à placer [...] des pièges pourvus d'une plaque alvéolée additionnée d'une poudre cireuse chargée de phéromones. Par phénomène électrostatique, cette poudre adhère au corps des mâles entrant dans le piège et ceux-ci ne parviennent plus, lorsqu'ils en ressortent, à repérer les femelles parce que leurs antennes sont constamment exposées aux phéromones.
