Le client qui nous a soumis cette demande SVP a aussi pensé à «comportement défensif», ou «défensive». Ce n'est pas l'équivalent exact de «backup behaviour» mais un terme qui en recouvre le trait caractéristique. Ce générique peut être utile lorsqu'on est incertain du sens exact de l'expression anglaise. «Retrait» constitue en effet une proposition à caractère hypothétique. En ce sens, «refoulement» pourrait peut-être aussi être envisagé.
