Some natural substances exist in various mineral forms (polymorphs) and some use of their inversion temperatures can be made in geothermometry. For example, B-quartz inverts to [alpha]-quartz with falling temperature at 573°C. We can determine wether quartz originally crystallized as B-quartz by etching with hydrofluoric acid, and thus decide whether it was deposited above or below 573°C. 5, record 1, English, - beta%20quartz
