Similarly, between 1986 and March 1995, the Canadian Rural Transition Program provided assistance to farm families who had ceased farming because of financial difficulties, to move to alternative employment and another way of life. 4,900 applications were approved since the inception of the program, but application levels fell to 224 in 1994-95, and the program was concluded on March 31, 1995.
