In grain markets, which normally are carrying charge markets, there are a number of occasions when the price structure may become inverted. One is the difference in the supply situation between a contract month that falls at the end of a crop year and one which follows the new harvest.

Le «marché inversé» est le contraire du marché de frais financiers. C'est un marché où le prix des contrats à échéance différée est inférieur au prix des contrats à l'échéance la plus proche. Les marchés de frais financiers sont plus communs dans le cas des marchandises à temps de récolte court et entreposées tout au long de l'année. On trouve des marchés inversés dans le cas des céréales et des oléagineux lorsque l'offre est faible par rapport à la demande.
