CHANCERY [4 records]

Record 1 2014-02-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Courts
  • The Judiciary (Public Administration)
DEF

A court of equity.

CONT

Any party to be examined orally under this Act shall be so examined by or before a judge ... a master in chancery, a clerk of the Crown or a special examiner of the court in which the election petition is pending ...

OBS

The term "chancery" is derived from the court of the Lord Chancellor, the original English court of equity.

  • Structures du pouvoir judiciaire (Admin. publ.)
CONT

Record 2 2006-06-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Diplomacy
DEF

The office where the chief of mission and his staff work.

OBS

This office is often called the embassy but this is a misnomer. Technically, the embassy is where the ambassador lives, not where he works, although in earlier times when diplomatic missions were smaller, this was usually the same building. Today, for clarity's sake, many diplomats now distinguish between the two by using the terms "embassy residence" and "embassy office".
