A community-based residential facility (CBRF) is a half-way house. These facilities provide a bridge between the institution and the community. They work on a system of gradual, supervised release. Les établissements résidentiels communautaires (ERC) sont des maisons de transition. Ils permettent aux délinquants de faire la transition entre l'établissement correctionnel et la collectivité. Ils fonctionnent dans le cadre d'une mise en liberté graduelle et sous surveillance. Plusieurs d'entre eux offrent des programmes et des services aux résidents.
