Two structural units are involved in the atomic lattices of most of the clay minerals. One unit consists of two sheets of closely packed oxygens or hydroxyls in which aluminum, iron, or magnesium atoms are embedded in octahedral coordination, so that they are equidistant from six oxygens or hydroxyls. 2, record 1, English, - compact%20structure
