The Council of Science and Technology Advisors (CSTA) - is a group of advisors outside the government who provide expert science advice to the federal cabinet. The CSTA aims to improve the management of federal science and technology by examining problems shared by departments and agencies, including Health Canada, that focuses on science and research. The advisory group also highlights potential opportunities for partnerships. Established in 1998, the CSTA was created in response to the government's science and technology plan. The plan called for the government to: Rely more on external advice; and Form one group that would advise the federal government on science and technology problems.

Le Conseil d'experts en sciences et en technologie (CEST) - est un groupe de conseillers externes qui donne des conseils scientifiques d'experts au Cabinet fédéral. Le CEST a pour but d'améliorer la gestion de la science et de la technologie du gouvernement fédéral en examinant les questions d'intérêt commun des ministères et des organismes à vocation scientifique, y compris Santé Canada. Le Conseil met également en valeur les possibilités de partenariat. Le CEST a été établi en 1998, en réponse au plan scientifique et technique du gouvernement qui exigeait : un recours accru à des conseils externes; la formation d'un groupe de conseillers qui donneraient des conseils scientifiques au gouvernement fédéral sur les problèmes scientifiques et technologiques.

Created in November 2000 through a partnership with the Canadian Tourism Commission, one of the CSTA's key objectives is to market Canada internationally as a preferred sport tourism destination. The CSTA leverages its expertise and leadership as a catalyst to grow the $2 billion a year sport tourism industry in Canada, promoting the development of partnerships between events rights holders and host cities. Other activities of the CSTA include sharing best practices, measuring the economic impact of sport events and enhancing the profile of sport tourism.
