Solution aqueuse composée de cuivre, d'éthylène diamine et d'hydroxyde de sodium qui peut dissoudre la cellulose et les hémicelluloses contenues dans les matières fibreuses. On l'emploie dans une méthode normalisée (G.24P) permettant de mesurer le degré de viscosité d'une suspension fibreuse. Il est possible d'estimer la masse moléculaire moyenne de la cellulose à partir de l'indice de viscosité.
