This section ... examines basic reliability concepts, the Defence in Depth model and the role of station documentation. Defence In Depth. There are different ways of achieving the golden rule (CONTROL, COOL AND CONTAIN). Many of these have been incorporated into an important concept known as Defence in Depth. This underlies the whole process of design, construction, commissioning, and operation of a CANDU reactor.
