En ce qui concerne les aérosols troposphériques, les difficultés pour évaluer les impacts proviennent surtout de la distribution spatiale des particules. Celle-ci est géographiquement très variable, car les activités humaines et naturelles émettent des particules dont le temps de résidence est généralement faible dans la troposphère (de quelques jours à un mois).
